MedWait is built on the same CIHI and Ontario Health datasets your hospital reports into. We don't replace clinical judgment — we just surface the public numbers in a format your patients can act on.
Data sources
Wait-time figures for surgeries and MRI/CT are 90th-percentile waits from Ontario Health's public wait-times reporting (monthly, per hospital, per priority level); breast screening (OBSP) sites publish a single reported wait, and private-clinic numbers are clinic-reported. Safety figures are hospital-acquired C. difficile, MRSA, and VRE per 1,000 bed-days from patient-safety public reporting — closely tracked indicator infections, not a total infection rate — plus CIHI's risk-adjusted sepsis and 30-day readmission indicators. Recommended use in clinic
When a patient's wait at the default referral site exceeds the clinically appropriate window, search MedWait for the same procedure and consider referring to a hospital with shorter waits and a comparable safety record.
Corrections and feedback
If a published wait time looks wrong, or a hospital is missing, please email clinicians@medwait.ca. We'll re-verify against the upstream dataset and correct as needed.
